I'm Dawn Estelle Archer, Fitness Instructor, And This Is How I Workout

Start off by telling us about yourself and your journey so far!
My name is Dawn Estelle Archer and I am 32 years old. I grew up in Richmond, Virginia and I have been a fitness instructor for over five years. I have owned my own gym as well as traveled to all fifty states and a few countries teaching my class.

How did you get into fitness?
I was depressed and overweight when exercised became my therapy.

What's your fitness specialty?
My specialty is dance fitness as a form of therapy.

What's your preferred style of encouragement?
I prefer to encourage my members by being their friend. I listen to them, I am transparent about my own struggles and I give them positive reinforcement.

What would you recommend to someone that is new to the city, or working out, in terms of meeting and connecting with others?
I would tell them to utilize Instagram and to search through the hashtags for local boot camps.

How do you track fitness goals?
I track my goals through photos. I do not like the scale because I believe that it can become obsessive.

What do you track for fitness goals? 
I use my Apple Watch to track my fitness goals.

Who are your fitness icons/mentors/heroes/inspiration?
I don't have many fitness inspirations, but I am encouraged by my peers. I want to be my best self and I encourage people to do the same.

What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is kale. The first time that I tried kale, I sauteed it and hated it. Now I eat it raw with just a light lemon vinaigrette almost every day.

What’s your go-to song or artist at the gym?
My go-to artist is DJ Snake. I love everything that he makes. I think most of my friends are Beyonce fans.

What are three interesting facts about you? 
1. I do not like to touch newspapers.
2. I am terrified of the dentist.
3. I cry very easily.

What is your greatest achievement and how has it shaped you?
My greatest achievements are completing my tour and knowing that I have helped people that may have sunk into a depression. It has shaped me into a more humble person and helped me to heal myself. Giving love is great therapy.

If you could master one skill you do not have right now, what would it be?
If I could master one skill it would be running. I think running is great for your endurance and is a free activity that requires no equipment. However, I have not mastered it quite yet.
