I'm Carly Rowena, Personal Trainer, And This Is How I Workout

Start off by telling us about yourself and your journey so far!
My name is Carly Rowena, I’m a Personal Trainer and health and wellness blogger from the UK. I’ve been sharing my workouts, recipes and daily life online for the last 5 years as well as hosting Retreats such as climbing Kilimanjaro and taking my followers on epic workouts, confidence workshops and providing support online via my #ChatWithCarly programme.

How did you get into fitness?
I was always into movement but never thought it would become my career. I was 26 when I started YouTube and initially used it as a talent search to find my own passions, after three months of filming videos it was my followers who made me aware that I should be a personal trainer and that’s exactly what I did!

What's your fitness specialty?
I adore weights and functional movements, there's something about the independence that comes from feeling stronger and in all honesty all I want for myself and my followers to live life to the fullest feeling their most incredible.

What's your preferred style of encouragement?
I wish I was a tough love kind of person but those around me would most likely say I'm just a very positive person, I’m realistic and want everyone to understand that you can have the life you want without having to sacrifice things you love.

What would you recommend to someone that is new to the city, or working out, in terms of meeting and connecting with others?
Trying a new class is an incredible way to meet and connect with people, there’s something about the vulnerability of trying something new that is out of your comfort zone that creates epic friendships, my current closet friends were actually found at my local CrossFit box!

How do you track fitness goals?
Personally, I love to have a mix of goals, one aesthetic, one short term and long term and one goal you just cannot imagine reaching. That way tracking the goal is always variable, photos, measurements, workout time, distance, weight, it’s much more motivational.

Who are your fitness icons/mentors/heroes/inspiration?
There are so many people who inspire me but in all honesty, I am always inspired by people who have worked through a journey, I currently adore Mat Fraser (Fittest man of Earth) and as a new mum, I find Emily Skye and Hannah Bower incredibly motivating!

What is your favorite food?
Oh, I am such a foodie, my favourite food has to be anything fresh and by the sea, i would live on a Mediterranean diet if I could!

What’s your go-to song or artist at the gym?
I was brought up on old school rock and love Bon Jovi or Country Music artists such as Kip Moore.

What are three interesting facts about you?
1. I’m terrified of Lava.
2. I involuntarily wiggle when I am truly enjoying a meal.
3. People touching my belly button makes me feel sick.

What is your greatest achievement and how has it shaped you?
I have two greatest achievements, climbing Kilimanjaro with 16 of my followers and giving birth to my little girl on two paracetamol after 39 hours of labour.
