I'm Joanna Jean, IFBB PRO, And This Is How I Workout

Start off by telling us about yourself and your journey so far!
My name is Joanna Jean 31 old, I’ve been competing for the past year in the Figure. I have a full-time job at the Hospital, and a personal trainer part-time. after work, I usually hit the gym and at night I like to go out with friends to have some fun. I enjoy engaging myself in exciting activities and going on new adventures.

But before that, In January 2010, 5 days after the massive earthquake in Haiti, I moved to Montreal with my 7 years old brother and my eighteen-year-old sister. Due to all the responsibilities that I had on my shoulders, I had to work and take care of my family especially my young innocent brother. I worked a lot so I didn’t especially think to create time to workout, because of the many urgency situations that I had to cope with. By 2014 I became more stable financially so I decided to start training again but because I worked too much, I could no longer do a team sport, so I enrolled in a gym and started to work out.

How did you get into fitness?
My passion began in my childhood in Haiti, where I used to go my cousin's gym to read his fitness magazines where I often saw Arnold Schwarzenegger who was already my favorite actor at the time and other females fitness models with an incredible body that grows the interest in me even more.

It’s been a dream to have the body that I have now. Actual Fitness practice comes later, but I have never thought that I could realize it in my youth. I was always involved in sports activities, back in middle school and high school I was a volley-Ball athlete and that for 8 years. But one day in the year of 2012, a friend told me, that I had the genetic build to become a fitness athlete. At that time I didn’t take that advice with much higher considerations. For my 28th birthday, I decided to put myself to the test. I had to get in Shape for a photo shoot so training and not really a diet. I start a training program and took some advice from friends at the time who was already a gym lover. My final result was so exceptional. after my shooting, I went to the gym, and Chris Gurulian my coach wondered who this girl was, with such a beautiful body. He did not recognize me after my transformation since our first meeting a year ago. Back then, he didn’t believe I could potentially meet the physicality standard to compete. Once he saw those changes, we met once more and he told me that he will bring me to victory if I join his team. And I said to myself why not trying let’s see where It goes.

What's your fitness specialty?
Bodyfitness or figure Model and start doing calisthenics.

What's your preferred style of encouragement?
I can say people who're always positive who show you or help you do the impossible.

What would you recommend to someone that is new to the city, or working out, in terms of meeting and connecting with others?
Whatever the difficulties we face, the struggle we go through, when you set an objective for yourself NEVER give up. Do everything in your power to achieve it. Till today I never once doubted in myself. Nor did I ever think it would be Impossible for me to have such a defined figure with so much muscle and to become and to make it a profession. All I ever told myself was, « Yes I can » and everything else followed. Stay disciplined, motivated work 2 times harder then your opponent and success will come knocking at your door. How do you track fitness goals?
Every day has 24 hours and every week has 7 days, there is no time to blame yourself about needing more time to do important stuff in your life. First, you need to ask yourselves; why we train and what sacrifices are we willing to make? To create a disciplinary lifestyle that will ensure success in achieving our own goals we need balance, feed the mind, feed the body and still make time for your own leisure habits outside of works and training. The secret of a happy life is all about balance. Surround yourself with positivity and keep control over what you can don’t be obsessed with what is out of your control in life.

What do you track for fitness goals?
Heavyweight, focus on every single muscle or group of muscle.

Who are your fitness icons/mentors/heroes/inspiration?
I don't really have someone specifically. Before I would be inspired by certain celebrities and would be in awe by their body and want to resemble them. But today I have gone beyond most of them physically talking. Today my role models are anyone that is willing to make the Impossible – Possible. handicap people or people struggling with massive weight issues that can achieve a body goal of theirs are my role model

What is your favorite food?
Ribsteak and pizzza

What’s your go-to song or artist at the gym?
Anything I can dance on and that pushes me to stay active. It allows me to stay motivated and in control.

What are three interesting facts about you?
1. Humble
2. Self-confidence
3. Generous

What is your greatest achievement and how has it shaped you?
Winning my IFBB Pro card in only one year. I can only say‘ I am blessed’ and always be humble. I was working hard for it too so I'm proud of myself.

If you could master one skill you do not have right now, what would it be?
Be more flexible with my body.
