I'm Mike Chabot, Personal Trainer, And This Is How I Workout

Start off by telling us about yourself and your journey so far!

I’m a 27-year-old fitness model, and personal trainer, who devotes his life in helping others get the mindset and physique they always dream of. Since I can remember, I’ve always done a lot of sports. It’s always been a big part of my life. Soccer has been my main sport. I played for about 10 years and nowadays I prefer playing tennis. I’m a very competitive person. At the age of 16, I was discovered at first fitness and strongman competitions. I was intrigued to know how those people could achieve such perfect physique conditions so I started training on my own.

I always have been the kid who aspired for more in life. I definitely wanted to make a lot of money to achieve freedom. While I was studying finance and administration in college, I started a window washing company that allowed me to know that I wanted to be self-employed. After 3 years in college, I decided to drop out since I knew it wasn’t for me. I also closed my company because I realized I wasn’t happy doing something that wasn’t my passion.

Back in 2011, I got a motorcycle accident that forced me to stop training for 6 months. Three years later, I still have some pain and limitations. While I was recovering from this accident, I started being interested in personal development and the ways to reach happiness. Since fitness was my passion, and I wanted to be in contact with people, it just made me even more motivated to become a fitness model and personal coach. My message was clear: Training is not only about having the best shape of your life. It’s also having a strong mindset that will help you become a better person and focus on your goals.

Now on top of being a trainer, I am an international fitness model. I did a partnership with tons of brands such as Bang, VPX, Fitness revolution and more. I appeared in magazines and a TV show. I’m also a book cover model, which at the moment, I did around 220 covers most of them are New York Times Best Seller. My goals for the future are to partnership and model for a luxury brand such as Hugo Boss, Nike or other big names.

How did you get into fitness?
I always loved fitness, been doing it since I was 15 but I decided to make it a lifestyle and job when I was around 22. Fitness and being healthy has always been more than just being good looking – it’s being committed and self-discipline.

What's your fitness specialty?
I personally train in hypertrophy but in terms of coaching, I can do anything.

What's your preferred style of encouragement?
Pictures and videos. At the gym, music.

What would you recommend to someone that is new to the city, or working out, in terms of meeting and connecting with others?
If you are new to a city, just try different gym until you find one that you like and start going often. I offer online coaching because it’s the best and most convenient, people can travel and change gym while staying with their training. If you go often to the same gym you will for sure make a connection with others but personally, when I hit the gym I focus on my workout and I keep the social for outside.

How do you track fitness goals?
In terms of tracking, I suggest my clients take pictures often and track their weights and bodyweight. I don’t really care about body fat or weight because you could achieve your goal but still not be satisfied. I prefer to use a mirror, how I look and how I feel. If I feel good and I like my look but I’m lighter than my goal, I don’t care.

What do you track for fitness goals?
I designed my training in a year so I know what I will be doing for the next 12 months. I do the same plans for my clients because that’s the only way to really have good progress. Some months you go higher in intensity and other on volume. I track everything.

Who are your fitness icons/mentors/heroes/inspiration?
Back then, I used to check Greg Plitt a lot in terms of fitness goals and mentorship. RIP.

What is your favorite food?
I really love sushi and burgers

What’s your go-to song or artist at the gym?
At the moment I enjoy SixNine for my training session. Love the vibe.

What are three interesting facts about you?
1. Always been a Gamer.
2. I read a lot and invest tons of time in growing.
3. I’m a French Canadian.

What is your greatest achievement and how has it shaped you?
Building a strong social media and community. It gave me a purpose and made me committed to posting every single day. It helped me with my work ethics.

If you could master one skill you do not have, what would it be?
Right now I am doing trading, Forex and I really want to master it. I am good but I want to be unstoppable. Great isn’t enough when I do something I like to be the best.
